Maturity is a high price to pay for growing up. – Tom Stoppard
In our previous article, labeling and fair packaging of products is compulsory. In addition to labeling and fair packaging of consumer products is the requirement of placing a price tag in any consumer product.
What is a price tag?
The law says:
Price tag means any device, written, printed, affixed or attached to a consumer product or displayed in a consumer repair or service establishment for the purpose of indicating the retail price per unit or service.
If labeling and packaging of a product enables the consumers to obtain an accurate information as to the nature, quality, and quantity of the contents of the consumer products, a price tag enables the customer or prospective customer to be aware of the specific amount of money that he or she may shell out in order to have such product. In other words, a price tag answers the question, “How much should I pay to have the product?”.
Is the seller allowed to sell his or her product without a price tag?
The law says:
No.
It is unlawful to offer any consumer product for retail sale to the public without an appropriate price tag, label or marking publicly displayed to indicate the price of each article and said products shall not be sold at a price higher than that stated and without discrimination to all buyers. In case of lumber, the same shall be sold, displayed or offered for sale to the public with the proper price tag and label by indicating its price and the corresponding official name of the wood.
What if the products are too small?
The law says:
If consumer products for sale are too small or the nature of which makes it impractical to place a price tag, as an alternative, a price list placed at the nearest point where the products are displayed indicating the retail price of the same may suffice.
Price tags, labels or markings must be written clearly, indicating the price of the consumer product per unit in pesos and centavos. Finally, erasures or alterations of any sort of price tags, labels or markings is not allowed.
