Intern’s Insight: Women of Alburo Law

The legal profession is often seen as male-dominated, but at Alburo Law, I witnessed women confidently taking their place in the field, and that became one of the things I loved most throughout my internship experience. In Alburo Law, I saw excellence paired with genuine connections, meaningful collaboration, intellectual strategy, open communication, and a shared desire to reach greater heights.

As someone who wants to begin experiencing the reality of the legal path I dream of taking, I knew that applying for an internship was the best place to start. Law firms naturally carry a sense of intimidation. As an undergraduate Sociology student, legal practice is very different from what I usually study. Many sociological theories may still apply, but the level of discipline required in the legal profession is much higher. Even during the application and interview stage, fear was present every step of the way. Still, I allowed myself to be comfortable with that fear and take the chance to be accepted. Fortunately, fate was on my side, and I wa accepted into the firm.

The first week felt surreal, but genuine connections formed quickly because of the warm welcome from the people in the office. As an intern mainly assigned to the administrative aspect of the firm, I had the opportunity to handle case files that reflected real-life situations I had only previously heard about in the news. Handling them for the first time felt unfamiliar, but through the gentle guidance of the attorneys, I gradually learned how to navigate the tasks and responsibilities entrusted to me. I realized that what motivated me to continue and helped lessen the intimidation was the bond they built with me. Legal work may be rigorous and highly technical, but the environment and culture of the office were very much supportive and encouraging, which I love about this experience.

What makes the firm powerful is the collective effort of its people. I witnessed how whenever filing deadlines approached, different tables became one working space, united by the goal of producing a comprehensive and complete document, all while sharing laughter with one another. It was a true moment of professionalism strengthened by genuine connection. Alongside this collaboration were minds that constantly adapted to the demands and responses of every case handled by the office. This is how I see their claim on their page of the Adept Professionals, that excellence does not come from a single mind alone, but from different people contributing the intellectual strategies needed for every case. The attorneys and staff were always willing to share their expertise, especially with interns, helping us understand the unfamiliar aspects of legal documents and legal jargon. I never felt that knowledge and experience were being gatekept; the goal was always improvement, and striving for greater heights.

As time went on, I was entrusted with handling case files, organizing the case management system, drafting demand letters and contracts, preparing transmittals, and digesting cases. At first, these tasks were challenging, but practice and routine truly teach you how to become comfortable with unfamiliar responsibilities. Alongside these tasks came an important lesson in my mind: admitting that you do not know something is also a skill. I learned this the hard way. I used to think that almost everything could be learned from the internet, but in a fast-paced professional environment, the experience and judgment of attorneys and staff are far more valuable and considered. They have developed their expertise through years of practice, and they made me realize that having the courage to ask questions and admit what you do not know is a strength. Open communication makes work better, faster, and more meaningful. It also made my learning experience richer through the constant discussions and questions I was able to share with the attorneys.

Alburo Law made learning easier than I expected, and surprisingly, it made me eager to do more, improve more, and continue pursuing my dream of becoming an attorney someday. Alburo Law did not disappoint me as a place to begin seeing the realities of the profession; instead, it encouraged me to dream higher and pursue my purpos for the greater good.

This internship removed the glitter that the internet and movies often attach to the legal profession. It showed me the truth about the path I want to take. It is hard, challenging, and exhausting, but it is also truly possible if you put your mind and heart into it. I am grateful for the way this firm trained me, shared its stories and laughter with me, and inspired me to keep pursuing the dream I have long carried. The dream I brought with me when I entered the firm has now grown, accompanied by a realistic understanding of what it takes and what I must become to earn it. The women of Alburo Law showed me that, with their heels grounded in determination and their minds equipped with intellect and expertise.
